When I first started this blog I had the intention to relate things that I have learned on my journey into Internet Marketing. Well this is one of those posts.
In my last post, I told about how I scheduled some posts to earlier than I had written them. It got me thinking about all the blogging experts telling people in their courses to have a number of posts pre-written before you launch your blog. They also say that you can then scheduled them to post “automatically” in Word Press.
But they never actually told or showed how to do this. They basically left you on your own to figure this out. The rest of this post will show step by step how to schedule posts in Word Press. (If you already know how this is done, thanks for your time. If not, read on.)
Step 1
Log in to your dashboard.
Step 2
Once in the Dashboard, look on the left hand side of the page and you see a navigation area. If not already selected, click Posts. The list of Posts page will then display. Next click Add New.
Step 3
This action will bring up the Write Post page. Here you can enter the Title of your blog post. Then click into the body box below the Title box and enter your content.
*Tip: If you write your blog post in another program like Notepad, you can just copy the content and paste it into this area. Then Edit it for appearance and formatting, using the incons above the box. Most of these icons are similar to any word-processing software and work pretty much the same.
Step 4
After the post is written, you need to save it as a draft. If you look to the right of the body box you will see the Publish box. This is where you will save your post as a draft. If you are writing the post in your dashboard, make sure you safe your work frequently. You never know when computer problems will happen, saving frequently will save some time and effort when these occur.
Step 5
Once your post is saved as a draft, you can then click the “edit” link in the Publish line. This will display a dialogue box that allows you to select the date and time that you want the post to be published.
Step 6
After you get the date and time entered the way you want it, click “OK”. You then see that the Publish line turns into “Schedule for” with the date and time you have selected. And the “Publish” button now says “Schedule”. When you have finished with your post, including selecting the proper category and tags and whatever else you want, then you can click “Schedule”.
Step 7
You can now see that the post is “Scheduled for” the date and time selected. If you need to change the date and time all you need to do at this point is to click “Edit” link again.
Step 8
After you have all your posts written, and scheduled, they will automatically post on the days and times that you have selected. If you ever need to change the date and time before they have posted, just open your Posts page. This will list all the posts you have scheduled and all the posts that are already “published”. Just select Edit under the post you want to reschedule and repeat the applicable steps above to reschedule the post.
That’s all there is to it. I realize that most of this information is found in the help section of Word Press, but sometimes it helps if the information is laid out step by step and has visuals to go with it. In the future, I may be able to do video tutorials like this, but until then this will have to do. Like they say, use what you have, until you have better.
Until next time,
Mel
